Weekly Actions: April 16, 2017
April 18, 2017
Anti-War Action: Get to know the anti-war movement in your country of residence.
Do some research. Who are the leading anti-war activists and organizations where you live? What do they want to accomplish, and what are their tactics for doing so? What can your PAGE group do to support them?
Watch your media consumption. US-American media outlets love war. Only one major editorial out of 47 opposed the Syrian strikes last week. Take a look: how are media outlets in your country of residence covering US military strikes? If you have friends in the US, share these global perspectives with them.
US-Americans of Color Abroad: If you identify as a US-American of color and are living abroad, it may be difficult for you to find the support from folk who understand the particular complexities of your identity. PAGE aims to support all US-Americans working against Trump’s agenda, and we understand that some of us have different needs. So...
If you identify as a US-American of color, and would to get and provide support from other POC, then please reply to email@example.com with the subject “US-Americans of Color”
If you are a white person in who wants to work in solidarity with people of color throughout the world:
Tell US-Americans of Color who may benefit from a support group to email us.
Educate yourself by becoming a paying member of the Safety Pin Box. “Safety Pin Box is a monthly subscription box for white people striving to be allies in the fight for Black Liberation. Box memberships are a way to not only financially support Black femme freedom fighters, but also complete measurable tasks in the fight against white supremacy.” Virtual memberships available for those outside the US.
Make sure you're on our PAGE: There are a few different ways that PAGE members connect, generate action ideas and organize together. Make sure that you’re linked in and you’re not missing out on what is going on!
Have all members of your PAGE chapter signed up for the listserv?
Would you like to participate in biweekly organizing calls with other PAGE chapter leaders around the world? If so, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Prep for Climate Day Action Solidarity for Humanity, a resistance group in Switzerland, is organizing a virtual event for April 29th, the day of the People’s Climate March. More details and instructions coming soon. In the meantime, if you happen to be outdoors near something beautiful which will be impacted by climate change, take a photo of yourself with a sign that demands action!
Keep Resisting Cuts to USAID, State Department and the UN: If you haven’t already, check out PAGE’s guide for doing this, and share it among your contacts. It’s super important to take action NOW to prevent cuts here. If you’ve already done this action once, consider doing step 4 again, and writing to new Indivisible groups.
Know anyone in New Delhi? The chapter there is looking to grow. If you know folks who might be interested, let them know about PAGE and tell them to contact PAGE.Delhi@gmail.com.
Ongoing Projects in Our Focus Areas:
Around the world, PAGE chapters are engaging across our four focus areas. If your PAGE group is interested in getting involved, email us at email@example.com and we'll support you and connect you to other PAGE groups doing similar work.
PAGE is working on a list of legal and support resources for folks abroad who will be impacted by US immigration and refugee policy. Write to us if you have ideas or want to help coordinate.
Groups around the world are reaching out to local Muslim leaders to ask how they can provide support to them during this time of heightened Islamophobia and immigration bans.
You or your PAGE group could also work with or fundraise for local groups supporting refugees in your country of residence. As the United States closes its borders, we can work to ensure that refugees have options.
Environment and Climate Change
The March for Science is on April 22. Find out if there’s a sister march in your community. If not, think about organizing one. If that’s not possible, consider reaching out to a scientist in your country of residence, and see if there is an opportunity to promote their work, on social media or through other channels.
The People’s Climate March is April 29. Find out if there’s a sister march in your community. If not, think about organizing one. If that’s not possible, use this opportunity to reach out to an environmental activist in your country of residence, and see if there is an opportunity for your PAGE group to support their work.
The growing global climate movement 350.org is organizing global divestment activities the week of May 5-May 13. See if there’s a divestment action in your country of residence! If not, consider reaching out to local environmental activists to organize one.
Global Corporation Watch
Divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline. Organizers around the world are targeting the banks which have invested in DAPL. See a bank in your country of residence? Reach out to us and we’ll help you get started with divestment action.
Global Trump Boycott. While you might think that most of the resistance action is happening in the US, we have a special edge being abroad in that we can target and organize against Trump’s international businesses. Consider organizing a boycott in your community of residence.
US Foreign Policy + Aid
Trump has proposed MASSIVE budget cuts to the State Department and USAID. PAGE is organizing a coordinated response here, which involves coordinating with Indivisible groups in the US, keeping an eye on various congressional committees and organizing global social media pushes. Stay tuned for continued action and let us know if you’d like to help.
Thank you for your Progressive Action!
