Weekly Actions: April 23, 2017

April 23, 2017

Priority Actions for this week:

  • EPA Action: Trump wants to cut the EPA’s budget by about 31%. Such cuts would have devastating impacts on global climate change and local public health and would disproportionately impact poor communities and communities of color. Since climate change is global, these cuts will impact people where you live, wherever you are in the world.

    • If you’re US-American, use 5 Calls to call your representative about budget cuts to the EPA.

    • Post a photo and a message on social media about how climate change impacts your country of residence. If you know people in the USA, contact five of them and ask them to use 5 calls to call their representatives on this issue.

  • DAPL Action: Resistors around the world are not letting up on banks that have invested in the Dakota Access Pipeline.

    • On April 25th, participate in a follow-up social media campaign to demand that Spanish bank BBVA divest from the pipeline. RSVP here on Facebook  for more instructions on how to participate.

    • On April 27th, participate in a follow-up social media campaign, to demand that Intesa SanPaolo divest from the pipeline. RSVP here on Facebook for more instructions on how to participate.

      • Read a letter to Intesa Sao Paolo, signed by PAGE chapters and many other groups, and published online in English and Italian.

  • 100 Days of Resistance: April 29th marks 100 days of resisting, and global resistors around the world are celebrating our achievements and planning what is next. Look for instructions and RSVP here on what to post on April 29th with the hashtag. #100daysresistingabroad

Extra Actions:

  • Join a PAGE working group: PAGE is forming working groups on our four focus areas: Immigration/Refugees, Climate/Environment, Global Corporations and US Foreign Policy. Would you or your group like to join one of these working groups and help drive our global strategy and actions in these areas? Email us at engage.with.page@gmail.com.

  • Online Climate March: Solidarity for Humanity, a resistance group in Switzerland, is organizing a virtual event for April 29th, the day of the People’s Climate March. If you can, get outside somewhere beautiful and take a photo of yourself with a sign that demands action for climate and humanity. If you can’t get outside, no problem! Take a photo of yourself inside with a sign, or use an older photo and add a message. Email photos to  info@solidarityforhumanity.com so they can post them online.

  • Sign up for Twitter: There’s a blossoming and beautiful global twittersphere of online resistance. Don’t miss out on what is #trending in resistance. Sign up and follow us on @PAGEofdemocracy.

  • Our States. US-Americans need to resist the Trump agenda not just on the federal level, but on the state level, too. StayWoke.Org has created this sweet online organizing platform to help us do so. Find out who your State Legislators are here and call them on issues that matter to you.

  • Tune into the 350.org broadcast on Thursday, April 27th to learn more about global efforts to divest in fossil fuels.

Ongoing Projects in Our Focus Areas:

Around the world, PAGE chapters are engaging across our four focus areas. If your PAGE group is interested in getting involved, email us at engage.with.page@gmail.com and we'll support you and connect you to other PAGE groups doing similar work.

  • PAGE is working on a list of legal and support resources for folks abroad who will be impacted by US immigration and refugee policy. Write to us if you have ideas or want to help coordinate.

  • Groups around the world are reaching out to local Muslim leaders to ask how they can provide support to them during this time of heightened Islamophobia and immigration bans.

  • You or your PAGE group could also work with or fundraise for local groups supporting refugees in your country of residence. As the United States closes its borders, we can work to ensure that refugees have options.

Environment and Climate Change

  • The People’s Climate March is in Washington DC on April 29. Find out if there’s a sister march in your community. If not, think about organizing one. If that’s not possible, use this opportunity to reach out to an environmental activist in your country of residence, and see if there is an opportunity for your PAGE group to support their work.

  • The growing global climate movement 350.org is organizing global divestment activities the week of May 5-May 13. See if there’s a divestment action in your country of residence! If not, consider reaching out to local environmental activists to organize one.

Global Corporation Watch

  • Divest from the Dakota Access Pipeline. Organizers around the world are targeting the banks that have invested in DAPL. See a bank in your country of residence? Reach out to us and we’ll help you get started with divestment action.

  • Global Trump Boycott. While you might think that most of the resistance action is happening in the US, we have a special edge being abroad in that we can target and organize against Trump’s international businesses. Consider organizing a boycott in your community of residence.

US Foreign Policy + Aid

  • Trump has proposed MASSIVE budget cuts to the State Department and USAID. PAGE is organizing a coordinated response here, which involves coordinating with Indivisible groups in the US, keeping an eye on various congressional committees and organizing global social media campaigns. Stay tuned for continued action and let us know if you’d like to help.

Thank you for your action with us!
